Flea Treatments
Female fleas lay approx. 20 eggs in a 24 hour period. The eggs fall off the host and hatch within 14-18 days. At that time the flea larvae has to have a blood meal to survive. They eat flea feces (which is just dried blood) and then if they don’t find a host, they cocoon. They can stay in their cocoon for up to a year without feeding.
The three things that attract fleas and cause them to come out of their cocoons are carbon dioxide, body warmth, and vibration.
- Host
The host is referred to as the pet or warm-blooded animal that can attract and carry the fleas. Unless the host is properly treated with a flea medication provided by a veterinarian, we are unable to guarantee eradication of fleas going forward. Without proper treatment fleas will remain on the host until they are dislodged or groomed from the animal. The female will continue to lay eggs that fall off of the host during that time.
- Interior Treatment
We spray the entire interior so it is our recommendation to have the tenants leave the premises during our treatment. Allow enough time to pass for the chemicals to settle and dry before re-entering the unit. After we spray, YOU must vacuum the floors for the next TEN DAYS!! This makes the cocoons open and gets them on the pesticide. Depending on what type of machine you use, there are different ways to complete the vacuuming.
- Exterior Treatment
Your grass must be cut low, and the loose clippings must be blown off or mulched. The yard must be watered well the night before. We will treat the yard in the morning hours.
No matter what we do or you do, it takes 30 DAYS for the fleas to be gone. This is because of the egg cycle and cocooning. We KNOW there will still be fleas two weeks later! You must wait the full 30 days.
